June 8 2025 Update
Dear Readers,
I’m happy to be writing to you about the growth of Casey’s Cure. We are fortunate enough to be growing and that means some changes will be coming; all good for us despite some its challenges.
We have rebranded ourselves as The Alliance Against HMERF, Inc., to be certain that all HMERF patients can feel included in our work. Yes, Casey is the first test case, and it is moving along as it should. To date, we’ve had no major setbacks and work continues to progress in the lab on course.
Our mice are growing and reproducing nicely. We have two colonies: One with the gene deleted and the other with the gene added. They are being developed by a lab with FDA credentials to ensure that the data collected comes from a qualified lab when the time for approval/review comes.
To date, the mice colony with the gene removed appears to be suffering no side effects from missing the gene. When reproducing with like partners, each successive generation appears to be as healthy as ever! This is really good news for the project! It means the mice are suffering no side effects from missing our broken gene!
The one with the inserted defective gene is also growing and reproducing, but as of this writing none are showing any signs of muscle wasting or HMERF symptoms. I’m told this is because HMERF is a late onset disease and we have to wait for the mice to get ‘old enough’ for the symptoms to present themselves. We continue to wait.
Another new development: We have begun our search for a praciticng neurologist with a specialty in neuromuscular diseases. This doctor will begin to monitor Casey’s disease, documenting the current status of her physical health. This would include her breathing status, strength, and other information to be used in the event that our work creates a proof of concept and we are able to enter an investigative trial. We continue to work toward this goal and any updates will be found here on this site.
Continue to follow our progress and absolutely reach out to us using our Contact Us form to reach us directly. You can also follow our lead scientist, Rodney Bowling PhD on LinkedIn !
God’s speed to each of you. Know that we work hard everyday to bring a treatment to the HMERF community.
